Reconciliation in the Park 2013 was strong and encouraging in Geelong this year.

Myranda Tournier: a young woman member of the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, co-ordinated the event with support from other members of the Working Group.

We received some good media coverage: newspapers & radio, plus increased support from politicians. The Mayor: Keith Fagg raised the flag with Uncle David Tournier at Reconciliation in the Park, and the activities included boomerang making, music from Jayden Lillyst, information on Constitutional Recognition with Morgan Coleman (photo below), the new booklet: The Wadda Wurrung people and the launch of a new podcast: ‘Johnston Park Dreaming’ – see ‘Djillong local history page of this website.

Geelong Gallery supported local schools to receive basket making skills, and with some beautiful paintings the art work from four schools was shown at the Gallery plus 3 local libraries during the week.

Thanks to City of Greater Geelong, Reconciliation Victoria and Reconciliation Australia for grants towards the event.
